After consolidating its presence in the realm of social media, Mark Zuckerberg now has his sights set on the artificial intelligence sector. According to a report from CNBC, the CEO of Meta is preparing to launch a Meta AI app that will compete directly with ChatGPT. Although the details are still confidential, this application is expected to be unveiled in the second quarter of this year.

So far, Meta AI has been integrated into various social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, allowing over a billion users to access its functionalities. However, the company is considering that an independent app could increase the visibility and accessibility of its artificial intelligence.

A new approach and premium subscription

Additionally, Meta is evaluating the possibility of offering a paid subscription plan, similar to ChatGPT Plus, which would allow users to access more advanced models and tools. This strategy could be key to attracting a larger number of users looking for more powerful options in the field of AI.

Meanwhile, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has reported having approximately 400 million weekly active users. In contrast, the Meta AI website receives only 10 million visits per month. However, Meta’s Chief Financial Officer, Susan Li, claims that when considering the combined use of Meta AI across its various applications, the figure rises to about 700 million monthly active users.

Still, this figure remains lower than that of ChatGPT. Zuckerberg seems to be putting a lot of effort into attracting users with this new app, especially at a time when his competitor, Elon Musk, has also launched the Grok app for iPhone and is developing an Android version.

In response to these developments, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, joked on X, suggesting it could be fun if Facebook tried to compete with them. Competition is intensifying among software giants like Google, Microsoft, and Meta, who are looking to drive the adoption of artificial intelligence and offer new attractive proposals.

Despite the fact that Meta AI has introduced features such as image editing, image generation, voice chat, and automatic translation in its applications, many users do not seem to be that enthusiastic. In fact, there are those who seek to disable these features on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. The question that remains in the air is: are you willing to replace ChatGPT with Meta AI when this new app is launched? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
