Last weekend was Tesla’s AI Day 2022, an event where the company presented news related to machine learning and robotics. Here you can watch the full video of the presentation:
One of the most anticipated announcements was the presentation of the humanoid robot Optimus, a 72.5 kg metal creature that, although it could not walk in its debut, was designed to perform physical work. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the intention is to mass produce this robot, whose estimated price is around $20,000.
Once completed, Dojo will be one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world.
In addition to the robot, Tesla also presented more details about its Dojo supercomputing platform, which is part of the company’s plans to train the autonomous driving capabilities of its cars through optical cameras, instead of using Lidar.
Although the presentation of Optimus has left no one indifferent, there are those who consider that the robot has not lived up to the expectations created. It is important to bear in mind that Tesla’s robotics engineers have only had a year to develop Optimus, while other companies such as Boston Dynamics or Honda have had more time to work on their own creations. In spite of everything, many robotics experts have positively assessed the work done by the Tesla team in such a short time and consider the Optimus prototype to be an excellent base on which they can continue to build.
