My verdict
In IT since 2002: systems, engineering, web development and SEO. I have been doing business with AI since February 2023, when ChatGPT could first be bought in Spain.
Poe is Quora's app for chatting with the big AI models side by side: GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Kimi and thousands of bots made by other users, all under one account. Everything runs on points. Free users get a daily allowance that resets every 24 hours, and every bot shows its rates in points before you send anything. Subscriptions start at $4.99 a month. It's a good deal if you like switching models, and a confusing one if you just want one assistant that answers: you can't send a single message without an account, and Poe doesn't publish how many points the free plan gives you.

Poe is an app from Quora where you chat with many AI models from one account: OpenAI's GPT, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini, xAI's Grok, Moonshot's Kimi, plus image, video and audio models and thousands of bots that other users have built. You pay with points. Free accounts get a daily allowance, and subscriptions start at $4.99 a month.
What Poe is in 2026
If you remember Poe from 2023, the idea hasn't changed, but the menu has grown a lot. The sign-in page now says "Chat with the best AI, privately or in a group chat," and names GPT-6-Astra, Claude-Opus-5.5, Claude-Fable-5.1, Gemini-4-Argon and Grok-4.7, "and thousands of others."
The official models sit under Explore, split into tabs: Official, Budget, Search, Image, Video, Audio and Programming. Under Official you'll find each lab's top models each with a short description. And then there's Poe's own general-purpose bot, called simply Assistant.
Assistant doesn't let you choose the model. In Poe's words, queries are "automatically routed based on the task and subscription status," and its page lists one set of models for subscribers and a lighter one for everyone else. The Rates window of the same bot names a slightly different set, so I wouldn't rely on knowing which model answered. If that matters to you, pick the model yourself.
How Poe's points work
This is the part worth understanding before you sign up. Every message costs points, and the price depends on the bot and on how long the message and the answer are. Poe says it plainly: "longer messages are more expensive than shorter messages." Each bot has a Rates window with the price in dollars and in points per 1,000 tokens (by Poe's own math, 1,000 tokens is about 700 words).
The gap between bots is big. On the free Assistant, answers cost up to 120 points per 1,000 tokens. For subscribers, the same bot goes up to 600, because it routes to bigger models. Claude-Sonnet-5.5 costs 334 points per 1,000 tokens of output, and web searches and images add their own costs. In practice, a few long chats with a top model use up far more points than a day of quick questions to a budget one.
Free points don't roll over (Important)
Poe gives free users points every day, and they "reset at the end of each 24-hour period." Whatever you don't use is gone. The public help pages don't say how many you get, so check the counter in Settings after you sign up.
What I could do without an account
I could look around, but not chat. poe.com sends you straight to the sign-in page, and "Try Assistant" does the same, so there's no guest mode. What you can see without signing in is still useful: every bot's page with its Rates window, Explore and the public leaderboard, where Poe ranks models by their weekly share of use. On the day I looked, GPT-6-Astra and Claude-Opus-5.5 led it.
You can sign up with Google, Apple, email or a phone number. If you use Google, Poe asks for your birthday before you can start, which it says helps keep the platform safe.
Poe pricing
I checked the prices on October 17, 2026. Poe doesn't show its plans until you sign in, so these are the figures from its own help center and terms of sale, all in dollars.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Daily points that reset every 24 hours and don't roll over |
| Subscription | From $4.99 a month | More points than the free plan, daily or monthly, and the full context length of each bot; monthly or yearly billing |
| Add-on points | From $30 per 1 million points | Subscribers only; valid for a year, not refundable |
Any applicable taxes come on top, and subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Some plans can also be shared: you invite a limited number of members, and they all draw on the same points.
Watch the counter for a few days first (Tip)
The free plan is the best way to learn your own pace. Use the models you'd actually use, look at how fast the points go, and only then pick a plan. If you live on a top model, a subscription to that model's own app may be the better deal.
More than a chat window
Two things set Poe apart from a single-model app. The first is group chats: you can bring other people and several AI models into the same conversation. The second is bots. Anyone can build one on top of a model and share it, and Poe's help center explains how creators can set a price per message. There's also a Poe API for developers who want one key for many models.
Who Poe is for, and who should skip it
Poe makes sense if you like comparing models, if you'd otherwise pay for two or three AI subscriptions, or if you want to build and share bots.
Skip it if you use one model for everything. Its own app will give you more of that model's features, without counting points. And if you want to try it before creating an account, Poe won't let you.
Poe or something else?
If GPT is the one you'd pick anyway, ChatGPT has a free plan and Plus at $20 a month. For writing and code, Claude has its own free plan and Pro at $20 with Claude Code. Gemini is the cheap all-rounder, with Google AI Plus also at $4.99 a month. And if you mostly want answers from the web with sources, Perplexity is built for that.
Poe's own short clip on group chats: you, other people and any of the AI models on Poe in a single conversation.
Who is it for? For people who want to try several top models without paying for each one, and for anyone who builds or shares bots. If you only ever use one model, its own app is simpler.
What I like and what I don’t
What I like
- One account for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and Moonshot models, plus image, video and audio bots, with apps for iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows.
- Every bot has a public Rates window, so you can see what each bot charges in points before you sign up.
- Group chats: you can bring friends and several AI models into the same conversation.
What I don’t
- No guest mode: poe.com sends you straight to the sign-in page, and so does "Try Assistant."
- The free plan's daily points aren't spelled out on the public pages, so you only find out how far they go after you sign up.
- Poe's general-purpose Assistant bot picks the model for you, and free users get the lighter ones.

Subscription
from $4.99/mo
Access to all the major models with daily or monthly points, monthly or yearly billing; subscribers can buy add-on points from $30 per 1M points
Poe doesn't show its plans until you sign in. Its help center says subscriptions start at $4.99 a month, billed monthly or yearly, and that subscribers can buy add-on points from $30 per million points, valid for a year. Taxes may be added on top. Free accounts get daily points that reset every 24 hours and don't roll over. My advice: spend a few days on the free points and watch the counter before you subscribe, because the top models burn through points much faster than the cheap ones.

How I tested it
On October 17, 2026, I went through poe.com in a browser set to US English, without an account: the sign-in page, the official Assistant bot and its Rates window, Claude-Sonnet-5.5's page, Explore and the leaderboard. I also read Poe's help center on points and purchases and its terms of sale, which is where the prices come from. All the screenshots are mine.
Since you can't chat without an account, this eight-minute walkthrough from How to Digital shows the inside of the app. It's from August 2025, so some model names and screens have changed since.
