My verdict
In IT since 2002: systems, engineering, web development and SEO. I have been doing business with AI since February 2023, when ChatGPT could first be bought in Spain.
Seedance isn't an app, it's ByteDance's family of video models, and the question is where you use it. Dreamina, ByteDance's own creative app, is the easiest door: you sign up with Google, get free credits every day and can make short clips with Seedance 2.0 Mini, the cheapest model. The newest model, Seedance 2.5, sits behind a paid plan there. If you're a developer, the BytePlus API charges by the token and works out to roughly $1.16 for a 5-second 720p clip. My free test clip looked good and ignored part of my prompt, which is about what I expect from a cheap model.

Seedance is ByteDance's family of AI video models, made by its ByteDance Seed team: you describe a scene, or give it images and clips as references, and it generates a short video, with sound on the newer versions. You don't download "Seedance": you use it inside Dreamina, ByteDance's creative app (from the CapCut family), inside CapCut, through the BytePlus API, or in multi-model apps like Higgsfield. Is Seedance free? Partly: a free Dreamina account gets daily credits and can make short clips with Seedance 2.0 Mini, but the latest model, Seedance 2.5, needs a paid plan. Through the API, a 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip costs about $1.16 at 720p and $2.84 at 1080p.
Is Seedance free? The short version (Important)
To try it, yes. A new Dreamina account gets free credits, more every day, plus a few free generations with Seedance 2.0 Mini. Seedance 2.5? Not for free: on a free account the generate button opens the plans window. Developers pay per token on BytePlus: about $1.16 for a 5-second 720p clip and $2.84 at 1080p, and switching on 2.5 takes a balance of more than $30, a $30 savings plan or a token package.
What Seedance is, and which version you'll meet
Seedance isn't one model but a lineup, and Dreamina's model menu lays it out pretty clearly. Seedance 2.5 is the flagship: Dreamina describes it as "more realistic, longer videos, precise editing. Up to 50 references." Next to it there's a Seedance 2.5 Draft mode that makes 480p drafts so you can test an idea before spending more credits. Then come the Seedance 2.0 models (2.0, 2.0 Fast and 2.0 Mini, from most versatile to cheapest) and the older 1.0 models.
ByteDance's official page calls Seedance 2.5 "a next-generation audio-video joint generation model, built for 30-second storytelling", and Dreamina's Seedance page says you can extend clips up to 180 seconds with a long-video mode in beta. It also promises editing only the part of a clip that needs fixing instead of regenerating the whole scene, and references of almost any kind: text, photos, videos, music and style guides. Those are ByteDance's claims; the clip I made myself was a much humbler 5 seconds, as you'll see.
Dreamina isn't only Seedance, by the way. The same menu offers Veo 3.1 (Google's model, which you'll also find in Google Flow), Wan 3.0 and a couple of others, plus motion-transfer tools called Recreate. But it's ByteDance's app, and Seedance comes first in the list.
Is Seedance free? What my free Dreamina account got
Signing up took a couple of clicks with Google, plus one extra screen asking for my birthday ("to protect underage users"). No captcha, no card. The generator's sign-up box promises "152 free credits when you sign up", daily check-in bonuses and "3 free uses of Seedance 2.0 Mini" for completing welcome tasks.
My new account ended up with 256 credits, all of them bonus credits: 120 from the daily free grant and the rest from two task rewards. Here's what a 5-second, 16:9 clip cost on the generate button:
| Model in Dreamina | Resolution | Credits for a 5-second clip | On a free account |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0 Mini | 720p | 0 with a free use, then 25 (55 without the discount) | Yes |
| Seedance 2.5 Draft | 480p | 60 (75 without the discount) | — |
| Seedance 2.5 | 720p | 160 | No: it opens the plans window |
That last row is the catch. I had 216 credits at that point and the button asked for 160, but clicking it didn't generate anything: it opened an offer to "unlock Seedance 2.5" with a paid plan. So the free account is really a way to try Seedance 2.0 Mini, and Seedance 2.5 starts with a subscription.
My test clip with Seedance 2.0 Mini
I used one of the free Seedance 2.0 Mini generations with a prompt I wrote for the test: "A slow overhead shot of an orange cat sleeping on a windowsill while rain falls outside." Settings: 16:9, 720p, 5 seconds. Before generating, Dreamina asks you to confirm you own the rights to anything you upload. The clip was ready in about two minutes.
The good part: the cat is very convincing, curled up and asleep, with raindrops running down the glass, warm light and a slow push-in, and it doesn't warp from start to finish. The clip also came with an audio track. The not-so-good part: it isn't an overhead shot at all, it's a side view at windowsill height; you see rain on the glass but barely any falling outside; and it added a lamp I never asked for. Pretty clip; it just didn't listen very well. There's a small "AI" label in the top-left corner of the video; the paid plans list "Remove the Dreamina watermark in downloads" as a perk, which suggests free downloads carry one.
Dreamina's plans: what you get for Seedance
Dreamina sells four plans, all with monthly credits. These are the credits and the number of videos a month Dreamina itself advertises for each one:
| Plan | Credits a month | Videos a month (Dreamina's figure) | Seedance perk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 1,361 | Up to 54 | Seedance 2.0 Fast: 42% fewer credits at 720p |
| Standard | 3,336 | Up to 133 | Seedance 2.5: 19% fewer credits at 720p |
| Advanced | 15,234 (other tiers available) | Up to 609 | Seedance 2.5: 41% fewer credits at 720p |
| Ultra | 51,067 | Up to 2,042 | Seedance 2.5: 50% fewer credits at 720p |
All paid plans remove the Dreamina watermark from downloads and let you extend videos; Advanced also comes in 7.5K, 15.2K, 20.3K and 30.7K credit tiers. About the price itself, a word of warning. Checking from Spain, the plan cards came up in euros even with the browser set to US English, and Dreamina says "displayed pricing is for reference only. Sign in to see final pricing, taxes, and any applicable offers for your account." I'm not going to convert euros into dollars and pretend that's the US price. There were also big first-month discounts on the monthly plans when I looked; check what your account shows before you subscribe.
What I'd do (Tip)
Sign up for free, make a couple of clips with Seedance 2.0 Mini and see if the style works for you. If you want Seedance 2.5, use Draft mode to test the idea at 480p and only render the keeper at full resolution: on the generate button, a 2.5 draft cost 60 credits against 160 for the 720p clip.
Seedance through the API: BytePlus ModelArk
If you're building something, Seedance is sold to developers through BytePlus ModelArk, ByteDance's cloud platform, and BytePlus publishes its per-token prices in US dollars. You pay per million video tokens, and the token count depends on the resolution and length of the clip (plus any video you upload as a reference). The good news is that the price page does the math for you on a typical 5-second, 16:9 clip.
| Model | Price per million tokens (720p / 1080p) | 5-second clip at 720p | 5-second clip at 1080p |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.5 | $10.70 / $11.70 | $1.16 | $2.84 |
| Seedance 2.0 | $7.00 / $7.70 | $0.76 | $1.87 |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast | $5.60 (up to 720p) | $0.60 | Not available |
| Seedance 2.0 Mini | $3.50 (up to 720p) | $0.38 | Not available |
Two details matter before you start. To switch on Seedance 2.5 you need more than $30 in your account balance, a savings plan of $30 or more, or a token package (the smallest is $32 for 5 million tokens, valid for three months). And the free trial tokens BytePlus offers, up to 2 million, are for Seedance 1.0; I found none for the 2.x models. There's also a BytePlus playground if you want to try prompts before writing code.
What one clip costs: Dreamina vs. the API vs. Higgsfield
Credits are hard to compare, so here's the same 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip in dollars wherever I could put a dollar figure on it. For Higgsfield I used my own test there in October, where a 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip cost 35 credits at 720p and 80 at 1080p, and divided each plan's price by its credits.
| Where you run Seedance 2.5 | What you pay | 5 seconds at 720p | 5 seconds at 1080p |
|---|---|---|---|
| BytePlus API | Per token, after a $30+ balance or package | About $1.16 | About $2.84 |
| Higgsfield Plus, monthly | $59 a month, 1,200 credits | About $1.72 | About $3.93 |
| Higgsfield Ultra, billed yearly | $99 a month, 3,000 credits | About $1.16 | About $2.64 |
| Dreamina | A paid plan (final price after sign-in) | 160 credits | — |
Higgsfield · Higgsfield, Inc.
Free with limits · from $19/mo
Seedance, Kling, Veo and Wan in one app with one pot of credits; Seedance 2.5 from the Plus plan.
So the API and a yearly Higgsfield Ultra plan land at about the same price per 720p clip, and a monthly Higgsfield Plus plan is roughly 50% more. Higgsfield's cheapest plan, Starter at $19 a month, only includes Seedance 2.0 Fast and 2.0 Mini among the Seedance models. Plus and Ultra also advertised 7 days of unlimited Seedance 2.5 when I looked (720p on Plus, 1080p on Ultra). Higgsfield's draw is the variety; the API's is that you only pay for what you render.
Can you use Seedance in the US?
Honest answer: Dreamina says it's live worldwide, but check your account. Dreamina's Seedance 2.5 page says it "is officially live worldwide", and another Dreamina page adds that "account-level availability can still depend on rollout, region, and product surface." The description of CapCut's launch video for Seedance 2.5 listed Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South America, without North America. I tested from Spain, so I can't tell you what a US account sees. If the Seedance models don't show up for you in Dreamina, Higgsfield and the API are the other ways in.
Read the terms before you use it for work (Heads-up)
Dreamina's FAQ says commercial use depends on its terms, the content you create and the models or assets involved, and that it deletes uploads and generated content after a set period. Download what you want to keep, and read the terms if the clip is going into an ad or a client project.
Seedance or something else?
If you just want great short clips and don't care which company made the model, Seedance is one strong option among several, and here are the ones I'd put next to it:
Kling AI
Free with limits · from $8.80/mo
Kling's own video models in their own app, with a free plan to start.
Runway · Runway
Free with limits · from $15/mo
Generate AI video and edit it in the same app, with Runway's own models.
Kling is the obvious one to compare, with its own models in its own app. Higgsfield is the pick if you want Seedance 2.5 and Kling side by side without two subscriptions. And Runway is for when the generating is only half the job and you want to edit the result in the same place.
ByteDance's own introduction to Seedance 2.5 on its BytePlus channel: longer clips, several references in one prompt, consistency from shot to shot and editing an existing video.
Who is it for? For creators and marketers who want short AI video clips with sound, and for developers who need a video model behind their own product. If you only want to see what it can do, a free Dreamina account is enough.
What I like and what I don’t
What I like
- A free Dreamina account comes with daily credits and gives you a few free generations with Seedance 2.0 Mini, so you can try it without a card.
- The BytePlus API price page shows the cost of a typical clip in dollars, so a developer can budget before writing any code.
- My free test clip had a believable subject, steady motion, a slow push-in and an audio track, from a one-line prompt.
What I don’t
- Seedance 2.5 doesn't run on a free Dreamina account, even when your free credits would cover it: you get the plans window instead.
- Dreamina showed me its plans in euros and says final prices and taxes appear only after you sign in, so the US price is something you check in your account.
- The free model took my prompt loosely: I asked for an overhead shot and got a side view, plus a lamp nobody asked for.

How I tested it
On November 4, 2026, I went through Dreamina, ByteDance's creative app, in US English from my server in Spain: the home page, the video generator, the model menu, the Seedance 2.5 page and the pricing page. Then I signed up with Google, checked the credits a new account gets, read the credit cost of a short clip on several Seedance models and generated one 5-second clip with Seedance 2.0 Mini on the free plan. I also read the official Seedance 2.5 page and the BytePlus API price list. The screenshots are mine.
A short official clip on Draft mode: test your idea as cheap 480p drafts, then make the final version in 1080p.
